Rainforest Topic/ Deforestation
15th Jan 2026
in Primary 6 we have been researching the devastating impact that palm oil causes in the rainforests around the world. Did you know?
It's not the oil, it's the way it's made:
Palm oil comes from the fruit of oil palm trees grown in hot places, found in tons of products like snacks, soap, and makeup, but making so much of it can chop down rainforests, hurting animals like orangutans;it's super efficient to grow but needs to be made sustainably to protect nature.
What's the problem?
Forests are disappearing and to grow more oil palms, rainforests are cut down and burned, which is bad for the planet.
Animals are in danger:
This deforestation threatens animals like orangutans, tigers, and elephants.
It's not the oil, it's the way it's made:
Palm oil itself isn't bad, but the way some people produce it causes big environmental problems.
We have written letters to major manufacturers in the United Kingdom to request that they use a different product and to investigate what they are doing to be more sustainable.
